Splendid Iceland
Thick fog this morning but again it was calm seas as we sailed up to our mooring at a very tiny town at the head of the fjord which was surrounded by very high and steep hills with some vestiges of snow. Our tour this morning was to a Nature Reserve which was at the end of a rough unsealed road with three stream crossings along the way.
The land was covered largely by blue lupin, this plant was not natural to the environment, but the government had decided it was ideal to hold what topsoil there was and to provide nitrogen to the surrounding plants. The seeds had been distributed by planes over all of Iceland.
The reserve had high cliffs and many birds resting in the nooks and crannies including Puffins.
There are lots of waterfalls coming off the hills, many farms generate their own power.
One of the main tourist attractions is the main road leading to the church.
The forecast for tomorrow is not good however we will see what happens. We are due to go ashore by zodiac so it may be a day on the ship again.
